Health Services
Caring for all students every day
The TCSS Health Services Department has 44 full-time nurses. Our mission is to ensure care that is student-centered, safe, timely, effective, quality, efficient, and equitable.
The Tuscaloosa County School Nurses work collaboratively to coordinate health and other services as needed to maximize the educational potential of each student. Collaboration involves partnerships with families, other school professionals, and community health and social service providers and agencies.
Definition of School Nursing
"School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning."
